National Design Studio and Cognition Launch the American Forge Residency

National Design Studio and Cognition are looking for engineers to help modernize America’s federal software infrastructure. Apply here.

American Forge is a six-month residency for exceptional engineers to take on the toughest problems in government and make a real difference for hundreds of millions of Americans.

Over and over we see teams that adopt Devin begin to take on increasingly ambitious engineering challenges. Engineering capacity is no longer the bottleneck. The best teams have solved code modernization and burned down their backlog. They are now able to focus on pushing the frontier forward.

Today, the federal government operates more than 29,000 legacy and out-of-date websites. National Design Studio was created to modernize the digital surfaces of the US government.

We believe in a world where agentic software engineering will make everything from the DMV, to the IRS, to your child’s elementary school website work as elegantly and smoothly as the best Silicon Valley startups. This is exactly the mission of American Forge.
